Using LinkedIn to protect your brand

—-First post in ages… Sorry about that! Lots of stuff to blog about though, so things should be a bit more regular over the next few months! Subscribe to my RSS, it’s easier than checking to see if I’ve written something new!—-

LinkedIn can be used to help dominate the search engine results pages (SERPs) for branded search terms. While there might be little point in sending traffic to this page, it will limit the space for any negative news articles appearing.

So rather than having position 1 for your brand term and 9 positions you don’t control, establishing a LinkedIn company page will help you get another position you control and help prevent bad news and blog articles appearing like this

Now, you can use all manner of websites to do this, Wikipedia, Youtube and corporate blogs can be manipulated to appear high up for a brand search, but I like using LinkedIn . This is because it’s (probably) the best professional networking site around and attracts other professionals. A company page on LinkedIn with employee recommendations and company updates, looks professional and will help confirm that your business is serious and reputable.

And that is the key reason why I like to use LinkedIn to protect brand searches. If bad articles or negative reviews pop up, this can help push them down again as well as confirming that your company is a reputable organisation.

A few pointers:

- Ensure people who work for your company have an up to date account on LinkedIn
- Perhaps give the LinkedIn company profile page a bit of link love!
