I’m surprised by several companies “buying” Twitter followers for clients. Even Michael Jackson reportedly paid for 25,000 followers via www.usocial.net.
Seems a little bit pointless really, how can anyone benefit from thousands of bots and fake people following them?
“It’s fairly easy to get a loyal band of followers for your Twitter account.“
Follow the rules below (pun intended!):
Interact:
Make sure you interact with others on Twitter. Retweet good or interesting tweets. Respond to questions from other tweople
Be personable:
Your personality should shine through in your writing style. Have an opinion too, don’t just watch others Tweet! Some of my favourite tweople to follow have a very distinctive style!
Get exposure:
Some blogs and websites run Twitter applications on their sites which display the latest Tweets mentioning the organisations name. Some high traffic sites are worth finding so when you tweet about them, you get your Twitter name visible on their website for a while.
The Skittles website famously had one of these Twitter feeds and so does the E-Consultancy website. Find sites in your own niche that do this and retweet them or mention them in a Tweet.
Get retweeted:
Keep your tweets short and snappy so they can be re-tweeted by others. Remember that if your tweet is too long, tweople won’t be able to add RT and their username ahead of the tweet!
Use hashtags:
These tags will help people find your tweets, just put a # ahead of the subject of the tweet and this will become easily findable. Websites like Hashtags.org organise the most popular hashes over time. This makes it easier to see what a tag actually means and what is popular. You can invent your own tag, but unless it becomes popular it’s unlikely to be used by others.
That’s my advice for using Twitter. I doubt this will get you huge amounts of followers, but using Twitter properly will help you get real tweople following you!
